The Maine Credit Union League said nearly 800 people attended its 75th annual meeting and convention last week in Portland.
The league said 57 of the state's 61 credit unions were represented at the June 14-15 gathering at the Holiday Inn by the Bay.
Highlights included a video of the league's 75-year history and an anniversary booklet, along with recognition of nearly 40 former board members and guests, the league said.
Speakers included CUNA President/CEO Bill Cheney, ProfitStars executive Lee Wetherington and Jim "The Rookie" Morris, whose real-life story inspired the movie of the same name.
"Achieving 75 years is a great accomplishment, and it was wonderful that so many integral people who helped to build the League and the Maine Credit Union System into the vibrant and successful organization it is today were able to attend and be part of the celebration," said league President John Murphy.
"The League and Maine's credit unions are stronger than ever so we had a lot to celebrate in recognizing our past, present and look ahead to the future," said Murphy, one of only four presidents in the league's history.
U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud (D-Maine) also addressed the group, reaffirming his support for credit unions, and video greetings were sent by U.S. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Angus King (I-Maine.)
