The Senate Banking Committee won't confirm a NAFCU report that NCUA Board nominee Rick Metsger's nomination hearing will be scheduled soon.

“We expect the plan is to have it happen next week before the July 4 recess, and it will likely be a hearing with a few other nominees pending before the committee,” NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler said in a news alert sent out by the trade group on Tuesday.

However, Senate Banking Committee spokesman Sean Oblack told Credit Union Times, “We don't have a date to report at this point.”

Metsger, a Democrat and former state senator who served on the board of the Portland Teachers CU, was nominated to the NCUA Board by President Barack Obama on May 15. If confirmed, he would fill the current vacancy left by Gigi Hyland.

Metsger is the second nominee for Hyland's seat. District Government Employees FCU President/CEO Carla Decker withdrew her nomination in February 2012 after a former board member leaked information about the $46 million credit union's CAMEL score.
