Community Financial CU Asks 'What Good Could You Do with $1,000?'

Nonprofit groups that are doing good things in their communities are often strapped for cash.

The $528 million Community Financial Credit Union in Plymouth, Mich., is hoping to bring some relief through its Summer of Sharing campaign by asking "What GOOD could you do with $1,000?"

From June 7 through Aug. 30, the credit union said it will donate $1,000 a day to nonprofit groups.

Nominees must be a 501(c)(3) organization or associated with an accredited educational institution serving the communities within Community Financial's field of membership.

Entries will be reviewed by a panel of Community Financial team members and will be awarded based upon the judges' own evaluation and discretion, according to the credit union.

"We are inviting the community to tell us which organizations are doing great work and deserve additional financial support," said Bill Lawton, Community Financial president/CEO. "It is part of our culture to give back to our communities and we are proud to bring 'Summer of Sharing' back once again."

Throughout the summer, www.SummerOfSharing.org will announce the groups receiving $1,000 in honor of their outstanding community service. More than a dozen organizations have already been nominated.

Now in its third year, Community Financial said it has donated over $120,000 through its Summer of Sharing events.
