State Employees' Credit Union has contracted with Diebold to upgrade its 1,100 ATMs to more efficient, lower-cost machines, 65% of which will take deposits without requiring envelopes, the company and credit union said.
The 1.8 million member, $26.5 billion credit union in Raleigh, N.C., makes its statewide ATM fleet available to the public without charging fees.
This fee-free aspect tends to mean that its ATMs get a lot of traffic and need frequent re-supplying, according to ATM manufacturer Diebold, which announced the sale.
The new deposit automation-enabled Diebold ATMs will help reduce re-supplying visits, as envelope-free deposits will post automatically to consumers' accounts without additional processing, the vendor said.
“Diebold's deposit automation technology will help to drastically reduce the frequency of our vendor cash management trips,” said Leanne Phelps, SECU senior vice president, card services.
“This efficiency will result in significant cost and time savings that will help SECU better serve our members, while delivering an improved consumer experience at the ATM,” Phelps said.
SECU's new deposit automation-enabled terminals offer enhanced efficiency and convenience for ATM users. The ATMs allow consumers to complete intuitive, teller-like cash and check deposits and receive receipts via email, if desired, said Ohio-based Diebold.
Consumers also benefit from the ATMs delivering the industry's fastest transaction time for a typical deposit – up to 30 bank notes and 10 checks in less than 60 seconds, the company claimed.
In April, 2012, SECU reported that its fee-free ATMs saved North Carolinians $8.4 million annually.
