CPCU Credit Union, Somerville, Mass., awarded four scholarships of $1,000 each to credit union members during its annual meeting. Scholarship recipients for the 2013-2014 school year were André Fernandes of Somerville, Paula Ferreira of Somerville, Leandra Furtado of Peabody and Gianna Scioletti of Melrose. Scholarship recipients are selected based on financial need, scholastic merit as well as their level of community and school involvement. Named after former board members for their dedication to attaining one’s educational goals, the Carlos Faria and Victor Da Silva Memorial Scholarship Fund has been a part of CPCU Credit Union since the 1980s.
DuTrac Community Credit Union, Dubuque, Iowa, award seven members and 2013 graduates of regional high schools scholarships on behalf of the credit union’s 2013-2014 academic scholarship program. Recipients of the $1,000 scholarships were Kendra Musmaker, a graduate of Hempstead High School in Dubuque, who plans to attend Luther College or Truman State to major in biology or psychology; Allison Kerper, a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Decatur, Ill., who will pursue a degree in biology/pre-med at Loyola University in Chicago; and Liam Rettenmeier, a graduate of Aurora Central Catholic High School in Aurora, Ill., who plans to attend Clarke University to major in athletic training. Recipients of the $500 scholarships were Caitlan Richard, a graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in Dubuque, who plans to attend the University of Minnesota or Iowa State University to pursue a degree in civil engineering; Morgan Dolan, a graduate of Hempstead High School in Dubuque, who will pursue a major in education at Loras College; Marie Hafner, a graduate of Bettendorf High School in Bettendorf, Iowa, who plans to major in pre-med and minor in psychology at the University of Iowa; and Ellen Funke, a graduate from Wahlert Catholic High School in Dubuque, who plans to attend Clarke University to major in elementary education.
