The $32 million Greensboro Health Care Credit Union is changing its name to HealthShare Credit Union.
The Greensboro, N.C., credit union was founded 57 years ago and since then its membership has grown to 5,300 around the United States.
“Our membership is not limited to those who live in Greensboro – we have members throughout the state of North Carolina and the country. With more services being offered electronically, members don't necessarily bank where they live,” said CEO Genice DeCorte.
She said the decision by the credit union's Board of Directors was not made lightly. “We have not merged or partnered with any other financial institution, group or credit union. We just felt the need to align our name with our current membership and strategic plan,” DeCorte said.
“The new name, HealthShare Credit Union, is a broad reflection of the field of membership which is 'health' care employees and their 'share' of ownership in the credit union,” the credit union said in its announcement. The credit union said the new name also will position it for future growth in the ever-changing health care industry.
