A credit union originally chartered in Poland to serve local coal miners has kept an international exchange going with Delta Community Credit Union for 17 years.
Four managers and one director from SKOK Jaworzno in Poland recently traveled to Atlanta, the home base of the $4.3 billion Delta Community, to continue to share best practices and learn more about common strategies and solutions in responding to ever-changing member needs, the Georgia credit union said.
During the week of May 5-12, Delta Community said, it coordinated events to give the professionals from SKOK Jaworzno a better understanding of the credit union movement in the U.S. and the challenges and opportunities credit unions here face.
The week began with presentations by each credit union on their respective strategies and performance. Dan Denning, vice president of knowledge development at the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates, participated in and provided an overview of Georgia's history and unique relationship with Polish credit unions.
The visitors from SKOK Jaworzno then spent time with their counterparts at Delta Community to discuss issues relevant to their areas of responsibility.
Sen. Steven Henson (D-Tucker) minority leader in the Georgia Senate, also welcomed the visitors at the capitol in Atlanta. Henson took SKOK Jaworzno representatives on the Senate floor and discussed the workings of state government.
Later in the week, Delta Community took the visitors to New York to meet with the $1.5 billion Polish and Slavic Federal Credit Union in Brooklyn. PSFCU and SKOK Jaworzno traded ideas and thoughts on products and services of interest to the Polish community, according to Delta Community.
"Delta Community's partnership with SKOK Jaworzno is mutually beneficial because it allows us to learn more about the challenges facing businesses, banks and credit unions today, both here in Georgia and abroad," said Hank Halter, Delta Community president/CEO.
