After just 12 hours, a new website launched by House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) to gather tax reform input from the public has received more than 1,000 submissions, according to the duo's Twitter account.
“No need to travel to Washington. Through the use of social media, we want all Americans to participate directly,” Camp and Baucus said on the site, www.taxreform.gov.
In addition to collecting comments, the site also provides a list of past hearings on tax reform and documentation related to tax reform from both committees, such as the report from Working Groups submitted to the Ways and Means Committee May 6.
CUNA Executive Vice President of Governmental Affairs Ryan Donovan said upon the release of that report that tax reform could potentially be packaged with legislation to raise the debt ceiling, and a bill could pass the House as early as the end July.
In April, Baucus announced he would retire and not seek re-election in 2014, which could add further urgency on the Senate side to approve a tax reform bill.
