The $829 million, 56,100-member USAlliance FCU in Rye, N.Y., has merged the  $970,000, 473-member UniteHere FCU in New York City.

UniteHere began in 1937 and, formerly known as the Dressmakers Credit Union, served garment, food service, hotel and health care workers in the city.

USAlliance said in its announcement that the small credit union had initiated a search several months ago for potential merger partners.

USAlliance now has two branches in Manhattan and said the merger allows it to expand its presence in the New York City area.

“We are very excited to welcome the current members of UniteHere to the USAlliance family and look forward to growing our membership base in these key industries” said USAlliance President/CEO Kris VanBeek.
