After nearly 38 years, Frank Berrish, president/CEO of the 157,200-member VISIONS Federal Credit Union in Endicott, N.Y., has announced he will retire on May 1.
Recently inducted to the Credit Union House Hall of Fame in recognition of his commitment and service to the credit union movement, Berrish has helped VISIONS, a onetime IBM employees' credit union hard hit by Big Blue layoffs, grow from $25 million in assets and three branches $3.1 billion and 31 branches.
In addition, making his local community a more viable place to live and work fueled his passion for economic development in the Southern Tier, Central and Finger Lakes regions of New York, his credit union said.
Berrish also led his credit union through its conversion to a community institution and recent mergers.
Berrish has served on various national panels, including the Fed's Thrift Institution Advisory Council (2005-2007), and with CUNA and NAFCU.
Plans are under way to name his successor by the end of this month, VISIONS said
