EECU of Jackson, Mich., has been granted permission from the NCUA and the State of Michigan, Office of Financial and Insurance Services to  adopt a new name, Michigan Community Credit Union.

The credit union will begin the process of changing its name on April 1. This decision emerged as a result of research and evaluation of the marketplace under the leadership of the board of directors and employees. Because of its strength and the state of the financial competition in the region, the credit union said that this is the best time to position the credit union for future growth and provide the ability to serve more families, friends and neighbors in the communities served who need a quality financial institution.

Membership has expanded to a community-chartered credit union, including many local families, businesses, associations and more, EECU said in a statement. "However, in the last few years, it has become apparent to them that they must also adopt a new name for their credit union that more accurately reflects and identifies with the members and communities they serve as a whole in southern Michigan."

It added that "this strategic decision will help to better position the credit union for future growth and the ability to serve even more residents and small businesses in our communities that are looking to develop lifetime financial partnerships.'
