Paul Kundert has been elected the new Filene Research Institute board chairman.

He steps in for outgoing Filene chair Pat Smith, president/CEO of the $912 million Unitus Community Credit Union in Portland, Ore., who remains on

Kundert had been vice chair on the Filene board and is president/CEO of the $1.6 billion University of Wisconsin Credit Union, like Filene, in Madison, Wis.

Kundert formerly was president/COO of Think Credit Union (formerly IBM Mid America, and now chartered as Think Mutual Bank of Rochester, Minn.)

In addition to Filene, Kundert has served on the board of the Wisconsin Credit Union League and the Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation.

"It's a great honor to serve as chair," said Kundert. "Outgoing Filene chair Pat Smith has set a high mark for leadership in supporting progress to keep the work of Filene relevant and impactful in an ever-changing reality. We are grateful to Pat and Unitus for their past and ongoing support of the Filene mission."

Rounding out the board are Patsy Van Ouwerkerk, president/CEO of the $2 billion Travis Credit Union in Vacaville, Calif., vice chair; Bill Cheney, president/CEO of CUNA, treasurer; and Brett Thompson, president/CEO of the Wisconsin Credit Union League, secretary.

In addition, CU Times Women to Watch honoree Jan Roche, president/CEO of the$1.5 billion State Department FCU in Alexandria, Va., was re-elected to a second three-year term as director, joining Smith and Jeff Post, president/CEO of CUNA Mutual Group, as at-large board members.
