Joe Gervais has been named president/CEO of the $126 million Midcoast Federal Credit Union in Bath, Maine.
Gervais has spent the past 13 years at the $211 million, 22,900-member University CU in Orono, Maine, including the past seven as executive vice president.
At Midcoast FCU, Gervais succeeds Gail Richardson, who is retiring after 33 years of service and leadership to the Maine credit union committee, the 14,500-member Midcoast said in its announcement.
“I have known Joe for many years and have always been impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. I am confident that under Joe's leadership the credit union will continue to thrive,” Richardson said in the announcement.
“I am looking forward to beginning my stewardship of Midcoast FCU,” Gervais said. “The credit union has a rich history of providing highly personalized service to its members and I look forward to building upon its past success and expanding the credit union's support of the Midcoast community.”
Gervais is a 20-year credit union industry veteran and Boston College grad who also has served for the past several years as president of Primary Mortgage Corp., a credit union subsidiary providing secondary market mortgage services to other Maine credit unions.
He is an active member of Maine Credit Union League Governmental Affairs Committee and regularly testifies before the state legislature. He also is the current treasurer of the Portland Independent Business and Community Alliance (Portland Buy Local).
