Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer's deputy press secretary, Kristina Weger, confirmed reports that the House is expected to vote today on H.R. 749, the Eliminate Privacy Notice Confusion Act.

Weger said the vote on the bill, which is sponsored by Luetkemeyer, is anticipated to occur sometime around 6:30 p.m. EDT.

The legislation passed the House last December but was not taken up by the Senate.

If passed, it would eliminate the annual privacy policy mailing requirement. Instead, financial institutions would only be required to mail the disclosure if the policy has changed in the last year.

Credit union lobbyist John McKechnie called the bill a common sense solution to a real world problem.

Anticipating the bill will pass the House a second time, McKechnie said, “It's encouraging that Congress is finding issues to address that don't divide the financial services industry. But, there are still some things they should put on their to-do list for credit unions, and I'm hopeful we can keep moving in that direction.”
