It was all about the members and the community when Advantage Credit Union recently celebrated its 75th anniversary.

On Dec. 13, the $53 million cooperative in Newton, Iowa, provided cake, pizza and beverages all day. Prizes were given away including a $75 Visa gift card.

Advantage CU was founded in 1937 by 14 individuals. Back then, it was called Local 1116 UERMWA Credit Union, according to the financial institution's website.

The credit union started from small beginnings with member-owners pooling their savings together so that other members could borrow money. Seventy-five years later, Advantage CU is open to employees and residents of 19 Iowa counties and now serves more than 5,300 members.

How awesome is it that a small group of hardworking individuals started this credit union with the idea and a modest pool of savings. We thank our community and our members for being part of 75 years of success,” said President/CEO Corrie Coyle.
