As his career there comes to an end, the Credit Union Executives Society building in Madison, Wis., has been named The Fred Johnson Center for Leadership Development.
Johnson is retiring on Dec. 31 and will be succeeded by PSCU executive Chuck Fagan.
At a recent ceremony for the longtime CUES leader, its board chair, Teresa Freeborn, president/CEO of Xceed Financial Credit Union in El Segundo, Calif., said, "His contributions to CUES will leave a lasting legacy, so naming the building in his honor is truly a fitting tribute."

Freeborn noted that since Johnson joined CUES in 1989, the membership has grown from 3,000 to more than 10,000 and its revenue had tripled as well.
"I am humbled and flattered beyond words to be honored in this way," Johnson said. "CUES has been an important part of my life for 23 years, and I'll never forget our incredible and dedicated staff who supported me and our members over this period. My name may be on the building, but it is they who built it."
