The $554 million Sb1 Federal Credit Union in Philadelphia is offering its 31,700 members a new website that sizes itself to meet the viewing needs of the device used to access it.

The mobile-focused responsive website was designed by L9.com, a Vermont CUSO that has worked with Sb1 for more than seven years, and the project was prompted by member surveys that showed the desire for improved online experiences that better fit mobile and tablet devices.

Sb1 said mobile users had increased from 1.64% of its traffic to 13.81% in the past three years and mobile users currently account for 15% of new visits to the site.

“As more and more people connect to the Internet through their various devices, developing websites that offer stunning and congruent visuals across myriad platforms is fast becoming a necessity for brands,” said Diane Childs Heath, the credit union's vice president of marketing.

With the growing number of screen sizes and resolutions, creating website versions that target each individual device is tedious and costly, so a growing number of companies are turning to responsive websites, L9.com said.

“This was not like a typical credit union website redesign that are often driven by the credit union's operational perspectives rather than by the website users' needs,” added Dave Mayette, CEO of L9.com.
