The $537 million, 29,400-member Christian Community Credit Union in San Dimas, Calif., said it has donated $10,000 to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts through American Baptist Churches USA's “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering.

Christian Community CU said the funds will go towards immediate disaster relief and long-term reconstruction in the U.S. and in the Caribbean. Along with the donation, the credit union said, its members now can donate credit and debit rewards points and that every 10,000 points donated will be met with a further $70 donation to the “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering.

“We are saddened by the loss of lives and property resulting from the superstorm. Our prayers go to the families and churches greatly affected by it,” said John Walling, president/CEO of Christian Community Credit Union.

“Through our partnership with American Baptist Churches USA, we are able to support the work of local responders who provide help, hope, and comfort to the hurricane victims,” Walling said.

The credit union's “Cards that Give to Missions” credit and debit card program donates a portion of its interchange income and to date has resulted in more than $2 million in donations to national and international ministry projects, disaster relief efforts, church planting, college and seminary scholarships, and other faith-based projects.

Christian Community CU's membership includes a large number of churches and ministries as well as individual members.
