The $381 million, 50,700-member BrightStar Credit Union in Sunrise, Fla., said it is accepting cash donations and matching them at its six Broward County locations.

The funds, which will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000, will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

BrightStar noted that it similarly raised a total of $15,000 for the Partners in Health relief effort following the Haiti earthquake in January 2010.

Across the country, the $748 million Los Angeles FCU said it also is contributing $1,000 to the Sandy relief effort, this contribution through CUAid.coop.
