Credit Unions for Kids, the industry's fundraising vehicle benefitting Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, is projecting that credit unions will have raised $225,000 through their participation in September's Miracle Jeans Day.
Many of the participating credit unions applied for matching funds through the CO-OP Miracle Match program from CO-OP Financial Services, which could bring the credit union industry's total contribution to Miracle Jeans Day 2012 to a higher figure by year's end.
Credit unions continue to be the largest group supporting the initiative in the entire CMN Hospitals network of donors. In 2012, credit unions will account for about 30% of all funds raised through Miracle Jeans Day. The largest fundraising area is Los Angeles and Orange counties in Southern California, but all 50 states were represented among participating credit unions.
"America's credit unions once again lead the way with the largest percentage of participation among all CMN Hospitals corporate partners, helping to make Miracle Jean Day 2012 our most successful year yet," said Joe Dearborn, senior director, Credit Unions for Kids.
This is the fourth year that CMN Hospitals, the charity of choice of the credit union industry, has conducted Miracle Jeans Day. In 2012, 535 credit unions participated, up 269% compared to the 145 credit unions in 2009. The estimated $225,000 raised in 2012 is a 325% increase compared to the $53,000 raised in 2009. In four years, Miracle Jeans Day has raised $641,000 for CMN Hospitals.
