More than 500 students from 14 high schools and 100 credit union volunteers got together this week at the Connecticut state capitol in Hartford for a Financial Reality Fair.
More than 10,000 students have now participated in the fairs since they began in the 2008-2009 school year, said the Credit Union League of Connecticut.
The fairs focus on completing monthly budgets and making good choices and offer a reality check of what it might be like when the students are out on their own.
“Preparing for your financial future can never begin too early, and these reality fairs provide a concentrated, structured means to learning the essentials of personal financial management,” said CULC President/CEO Tony Emerson.
Taking part in Wednesday's event were U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.
“We are pleased that government officials at the highest levels take a dynamic interest in this important exercise,” Emerson said.
