More than a third of Dow Chemical Employees' Credit Union's membership signed up for mobile banking in the first two months since it launched this summer, the $1.4 billion Michigan credit union said.

Jon Witucki, the credit union's website administrator, said adoption has been 10 times as fast as expected and that as the credit union watched its member support queues, they could see the self-registration process has gone smoothly.

"The backups and member issues that we prepared for simply never occurred," Witucki said.

Online bankers with the credit union can self-enroll for mobile banking and then view accounts, transfer funds, pay bills and find the nearest fee-free ATM using any smart phone or tablet, DCECU said.

The technology provider is Access Softek and a third of the Midland, Mich., credit union's 56,400 members has registered in the first two months of the mobile offering, DCECU said.

"Quite frankly, we knew that there was a demand for this capability. We just didn't realize that adoption would be quite as brisk," said DCECU Vice President of Lending Ken Roznowski.

Mobile check deposit functionality is being worked on now, the credit union said. The service was launched in conjunction with the credit union's 75th anniversary.
