When Lauren Dufour, a public relations major and sociology minor at Quinnipiac University, looks back at her career many years from now, she will undoubtedly remember the job she just started as vice president of unbanking at the $377 million Connex Credit Union in North Haven, Conn.

As the vice president of unbanking, a public relations and marketing student internship, Dufour will be responsible for helping spread the word about Connex CU and its “unbank” message to a younger audience.

“The vice president of unbanking really represents our connection with a younger audience and community,” said Dana Clark, acting vice president of sales and services for 45,400-member Connex. “Lauren's primary responsibility will be helping to educate what the credit union difference is and gain a valuable, hands-on experience working in a marketing department.”

The student internship is also part of Connex's unbank campaign.

In addition to highlighting the fundamental differences between credit unions and banks, the unbank campaign also taps into the public's current frustration with traditional bank and emphasizes Connex's commitment to the best interest of its members.

“I was very excited when I found out that I was selected for the position,” said Dufour, a senior at Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn. ”I've had several internships in the past and this opportunity as the vice president of unbanking can only add to my resume. I'm looking forward to working in a team environment that will help me strengthen my marketing and public relations skills. I'm sure this will be an experience I will learn a lot from.”

Dufour also will be responsible for the credit union's social media programs and content, assisting in the development of marketing programs and projects as well as participating in special events and grass-roots marketing efforts. Dufour will work within the Connex marketing team and assist with daily marketing functions.
