The $5.2 billion Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union plans to mark the opening of its 51st branch with a ribbon cutting on Sept. 14.

The new branch is at 3300 N. Armenia Ave. in West Tampa. The 536,000-member Tampa-based credit union said the branch is its first new opening in five years and that it now has branches in 15 counties in Florida.

"We believe that opening a new branch in West Tampa allows us to better serve our members and contribute to our local community," says Tom Dorety, president/CEO. "It's more important than ever that consumers realize that credit unions offer lower fees, loan rates and free services, and we hope that West Tampa residents will turn out to meet us and learn what we have to offer."

The first 25 openers of new accounts there will receive $5 and there also will be drawings for new and current members with two iPads as the prizes, the credit union said.

Suncoast Schools said it plans to open another branch later this year in Chiefland in Levy County.

Membership is open to employees of public and private schools, parents of children in public school and employees of its select employee groups.
