Sure, lots of credit unions hold member appreciation events in their local communities. But only one credit union can hold a week-long appreciation event for more than 4 million members at 223 branches around the world.

The $49 billion Navy Federal Credit Union announced Tuesday it will launch its first-ever worldwide Member Appreciation Week on Sept. 17.

"Our members are the reason for the strength and stability of Navy Federal," said President/ CEO Cutler Dawson. "They're the ones who spread the word about Navy Federal and encourage family and friends to join. I'm happy to recognize them and give something back."

Dawson said the Vienna, Va.-based credit union, the world's largest, will tout some of its best offers to date on certificates, loans and member referral incentives. Members around the world also will enjoy an atmosphere of celebration with food and giveaways that will culminate with the end of the Facebook video challenge ongoing since August, the credit union said.

The Tell Us Why You Love Navy Federal Facebook video challenge received nearly 200 story submissions from members around the world. Navy Federal encourages Facebook fans to vote on their favorite video from Sept. 10-19.

The winners will be announced Sept. 22. Six first-place winners each will receive a $4,000 certificate. Additional winners will get their share of the $31,000 prize package.
