Be it lunch at a local deli or a shopping at a neighborhood store, Michigan's credit unions are being called on to show their support of small businesses with actual cash.

The CU Lunch Local promotion, a statewide cash mob, will kick off Oct. 16, just in time for International Credit Union Week, according to Michigan CU Capital, which will be providing some marketing collateral for credit unions to print, display, and use for the event.

“Every dollar spent makes a difference when it goes to local business; and participating is as simple as stopping at a Michigan owned business for your morning cup of coffee or ordering lunch in from your locally owned deli,” MI CU Capital.

The group is promoting the event on its Facebook page. Credit unions can join the event by logging on to the page where members and their local communities will know that they are participating in CU Lunch Local.

Credit unions can also submit stories and pictures at http://www.facebook.com/MICUCapital or via Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #culunchlocal during the event.

Formed in May 2011, MI CU Capital, in collaboration with Michigan Business Connection LLC, a commercial lending CUSO, helps credit unions work together to share the costs and expertise of offering business loans.
