The $12 million, 2,350-member Greater Abbeville Federal Credit Union in Abbeville, S.C., is reaching out to its members and non-members hit by the closing of the Mohawk Industries textile plan in nearby Calhoun Falls, S.C.

“Overall, about 60 of the 200 employees are GAFCU members that will be affected by the closing of this plant,” said GAFCU CEO Faye Crocker.

Crocker said members known to be affected by the Sept. 25 plant closing will be sent letters offering them such assistance as loan refinancing to lower monthly payments and 60 days before the first payment is due.

They also will be offered help from trained counselors who can walk them through forming a budget to help deal with their new circumstances, the credit union said.

“Non-members that have been affected are encouraged to contact the credit union for assistance in overcoming any temporary financial hardships caused by the layoffs,” GAFCU added in a statement.
