The Golden 1 Credit Union in Sacramento, Calif., said it recently upgraded its person-to-person payment service and is now using the national Popmoney system.
The service will allow members to transfer money through their cell phone numbers, email addresses or account information, the $7.9 billion credit union said.
Other features of the Popmoney system allow members to create future recurring payments, import contacts from an email account and send e-greetings with their payments, the credit union said.
“Popmoney brings a new level of convenience to our members,” said Donna Bland, Golden 1 president/CEO. “They don't have to worry about having cash or a check to pay someone they know. They can pay back a friend for dinner, send money to a child in college, or send a payment to their gardener – with just a click of the mouse.”
The service is provided by Fiserv Inc. of Brookfield, Wis.
