The $4.9 billion Alaska USA Federal Credit Union of Anchorage, Alaska, was named “The Best of Alaska” on June 24, after readers of The Anchorage Daily News voted it the best financial institution in the state.

The platinum award has now been granted to the 450,000-member credit union for six consecutive years, the credit union said.

Alaska USA added that it was also selected as having the best family friendly environment by the Fairbanks North Star Borough and the Early Childhood Development Commission.

The credit union said it was among 60 organizations competing for the 2012 Family-Friendly Workplace Award. Each organization was composed of 25 or more employees and was nominated by staff members.

“Alaska USA cares about its employees and this is reflected in its flexible policies and practices,” said Lisa Hall, Alaska USA regional vice president, interior Alaska.

Employees of Alaska USA cited management's flexibility and understanding of family time in its nomination.

Alaska USA now has 64 branches throughout Alaska, California and Washington, with 35 of them in Alaska.
