The $3.7 billion Patelco Credit Union in Pleasonton, Calif., said it has committed to using malware defense software from ThreatMetrix of San Jose, Calif.

The TrustDefender ID and TrustDefender Cloud solutions will help protect the credit unions' 273,000 members while meeting the new FFIEC guidance for protecting electronic banking channels, the company and credit union said.

TrustDefender ID uses real-time device identification and identity verification techniques to validate returning members and prospects, while TrustDefender Cloud detects man-in-the-browser and Trojan attacks, the company said.

"We initially developed our own in-house solution in response to FFIEC guidance in 2005 but in the intervening years, cyber-attacks grew in terms of scale, sophistication and frequency," said Anthony Vitale, vice president of information technology at Patelco.

"Rather than spend our IT resources continuing to develop, debug and maintain our own in-house solution to meet the new 2011 FFIEC update, we felt that the time was right to source a solution from a third party," Vitale said.
