Deseret First Credit Union has named longtime executive Shane London as its new president/CEO, succeeding Clint Gurney, who is retiring after two years in the top job at the $420 million Salt Lake City credit union.
Deseret First Credit Union has 53,000 members and 10 branches in Utah and serves members and employees of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across the country.
London has been with Deseret First since 1981 and currently is executive vice president and chief financial officer. He will assume the helm on July 1, the credit union's board said.
"Shane has provided critical financial leadership during the recent turbulent economic environment. He is well-respected on a national and state level by his credit union associates and regulators," said Shaka Kariuki, chairman of the board of directors of Deseret First.
London joined the credit union as a part-time teller and clerk while an accounting student at the University of Utah. He has been EVP and CFO since 2008 after serving as an accountant, controller and vice president and helped lead Deseret First's switch to a federal charter in 2003 and its participation in the CO-OP ATM and Credit Union Service Center networks.
He is a graduate of the CUNA Management School, CUNA Financial Management School and Regulatory Compliance School. He also is a charter member of the CUNA CFO Council, a member of the Credit Union Executive Society and is active with the Utah Credit Union Association, Deseret First said.
