The $476 million, 52,500-member Mazuma Credit Union raised $2,700 during its fourth annual Homes for Our Troops BBQ Cook Off on May 18 at the credit union's main office in Kansas City, Mo.
Mazuma formed an alliance with Homes for Our Troops in 2008 through the Missouri Credit Union Association and began raising the funds to help severely injured veterans and their families.
There were 10 entries of beef brisket or pulled pork for the cook off and credit union members and the general public were invited to donate $10 or more for the privilege of being a judge, as well as enjoy a hot dog lunch and bake sale. A radio remote also was on site.
“All of our Mazuma team member volunteers did a wonderful job cooking, serving BBQ for the judging contest, as well as keeping Mazuma members and the general public full and happy,” said Brandon Michaels, Mazuma CEO. “Their hard work and preparation showed in the amount raised for Homes for Our Troops, and our members were extremely generous once again.”

“The weather couldn't have been better for the cook off, which isn't always the case, and the donations far exceeded the amount raised compared to years past,” said Cynthia Little, Mazuma branch manager. “Mazuma team members have the operational details down pat now, and it's very gratifying to see everyone's efforts result in more proceeds for such an important and worthy cause.”
