The art was Alabama funky but it was supposed to be as winners were named in the 2012 Funky Junk Art Contest sponsored by the Montgomery Clean City Commission and the $963 million MAX Credit Union. More than 100 pieces were entered in the citywide contest, which required that the works be made entirely of used or recycled materials. Artists were judged in different grade levels for children and in adult competition.

Below, “USS Bear” by Payden Smith won in the kindergarten-second grade competition.
