The U.S. Conference of Mayors has given the Bridgeport, Conn., community a $15,000 grant to promote financial literacy, one of five such gifts given nationally. The application for the grant was a joint effort of the city's mayor, congressman, the Credit Union League of Connecticut and Personal Care America FCU. The grant award was announced at a recent Financial Reality Fair sponsored by Connecticut credit unions at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport.
“Our plan to implement financial education strategies in the classroom will provide young people with a better understanding of how to properly manage their money,” Mayor Bill Finch said. “Grasping the importance of saving and making fiscally responsible decisions is especially critical to the young people of an urban population like Bridgeport.”
