U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton questioned the timing of William Liddle's reported stabbing, which occurred on the same day he was supposed to be sentenced in the AEA Federal Credit Union loan scheme case.
"This sounds like a very unusual story," said Bolton as reported by the Yuma Sun, adding "especially with the timing."
Bolton informed Liddle's attorney, David Eisenberg, that she would issue a warrant for Liddle's arrest if she did not receive documentation of the incident by noon Tuesday.
According to the Yuma Sun, Liddle's attorney, Eisenberg received a call from Liddle Monday morning saying that he was hit in the head and when he came to there was a knife in his chest.
Liddle, a former lending executive at AEA FCU, was scheduled to be sentenced Monday for his role in a million dollar loan kickback scheme that led to conservatorship and near collapse of the $245 million credit union in Yuma, Ariz.
