Funeral services will be held Saturday in Texarkana, Texas, for Joe Glenn Thornton, a former president/CEO of Texar FCU and a past director of CUNA who died Tuesday.
Well known for his service on numerous industry boards including Southwest Corporate FCU and the National Association of Credit Union Supervisors, Thornton, 76, had served for six years as a director of the Texas Credit Union Commission appointed by former Gov. Bill Clements.
He also served as a director of the Texas Credit Union League, including as an officer and a member of the executive and audit committees.
A certified audit manager at Tenneco Inc., he previously was assistant treasurer and a director of Tenneco FCU in Houston.
Thornton was CEO of Teachers Credit Union (now Texar) in Texarkana for 18 years and also had been a director of Town North Bank and of the league's Wright-Patman Chapter.
He is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren. Saturday services will be held in Texarkana at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church.
