The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions reports that the U.S. Treasury Department's Community Development Financial Institutions fund recognized 11 credit unions as community development financial institutions in the first quarter of 2012.

This almost equals the 12 CUs that were recognized as CDFIs in all of 2011, the National Federation said.

The 11 this year are 1st Valley CU of San Bernardino, Calif.; Cross Valley FCU of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; ERDA FCU of New York City; Financial Health (Clarian) FCU of Indianapolis; Forward Financial CU of Niagara, Wis.; Manatee Community FCU of Bradenton, Fla.; Mid-Cities Financial CU of Compton, Calif.; Military and Civilian (MAC) FCU of Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Nueva Esperanza Community CU of Toledo, Ohio; UBC Southern Council Industrial Workers FCU of Minden, La.; and Xavier University Employees FCU of New Orleans.
