Student lending CUSO Credit Union Student Choice and its more than 200 credit union partners recently taught an audience of nearly 500 in a free national webinar how to understand financial aid award letters, the CUSO announced.

In the webinar, college-bound students and their families learned about different types of financial aid, what to consider when comparing award letters, how to determine their financial needs and how to appeal award letters, the Washington, D.C.-based CUSO said.

Melissa Hunt, vice president of client relations and education for Credit Union Student Choice, led the webinar.

“Many students and parents have questions about their award letters and may not fully grasp their options,” Hunt said. “Borrower education is at the core of the Student Choice program, and this webinar was an excellent opportunity to clarify the issues and arm consumers with the knowledge they need to make good financial decisions regarding college.”

A recorded version of the webinar is now available for viewing on Credit Union Student Choice's credit union partners' websites, Hunt said.

“This type of event not only delivers valuable information to attendees, but also reinforces the role of credit unions as trusted providers that are truly working in the best interests of members,” Hunt said.
