Credit union representatives are among those expected to attend a rally in Orlando, Fla., Tuesday to bring more attention to small businesses and their efforts to boost local communities.
The Saving the American Dream event is being spearheaded by several companies including Open Solutions Inc., a data solution provider to credit unions and other financial institutions. Louis Hernandez, chairman and CEO of the firm will be the keynote speaker.
According to the rally's organizers, more than half of small business loans stem from credit unions and community banks. Over the past 17 years, more than 65% of net new jobs in America came from small businesses.
In addition to Hernandez, Dennis Dollar, former NCUA chairman and principal partner at Dollar Associates, a public policy consulting firm, is also scheduled to speak at the Saving the American Dream rally.
The event will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando, also the site of Open Solutions' ongoing annual client conference. The theme is based on a new book by Hernandez titled Saving the American Dream: Main Street's Last Stand.
Organizers said they have also created a petition asking Congress to support credit unions and community banks by opposing regulations they say stifle economic growth and the creation of jobs.
