Address scrubbing software expected to reduce returns and help data quality has been acquired by the $723 million Firstmark Credit Union in San Antonio.

Firstmark has purchased the QAS Pro and QAS Batch solutions from Boston-based, a part of Experian Marketing Services, the company and credit union said. Along with reducing costs from returns among the 300,000 pieces of mail the Texas credit union sends out annually, the solutions will proactively help member out reach.

They will be used by information technology, loan origination and deposits staff to cleanse addresses as well as help improve overall data processes and quality, the company and credit union said.

"Data hygiene has always been important from a direct-marketing perspective," said Fred Hagerman, chief marketing officer at Firstmark Credit Union. "We want to ensure our contact data is as accurate as possible so we can keep in touch with past and current members. This saves us time and money while ensuring we maintain good communications with our membership base."

David Northridge, vice president of client retention at Experian QAS, said, "By ensuring data is accurate as it is entered, credit unions can be confident that information is received by members on the first attempt, rather than having to spend additional time reworking information and hurting member service efforts."

The company said about 70 credit unions use the QAS solutions.
