The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions has named its current vice president for programs, Pamela Owens, as interim CEO while the board conducts a nationwide search for someone to take the position moving forward.
Longtime CEO Cliff Rosenthal is leaving on May 4 to take a position with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Owens has worked for the federation since 1998, and developed and managed the CDCU Institute, an intensive training program for directors and executives at CDCUs.
She has also managed the federation's efforts to enhance the financial stability of older adults as well as its programs to expand credit union access to people with disabilities, among other things.
“We are delighted that she has agreed to assume the position of interim CEO, and she does so with the full support and respect of the Federation's Board of Directors,” said Lynda Milton, board chair and CEO of the 2,000-member, $6 million Team Financial FCU in Houston.
Milton said the federation has engaged TransitionGuides, an executive search firm that specializes in helping non-profit organizations, to help with the search process and that they hope to have a new CEO in place by Oct. 1.
“Succeeding a long-term leader like Cliff Rosenthal is never easy. But the federation is a highly visible, respected organization that has made its mark in serving the underserved,” Milton said.
“With consumers by the millions moving their money to credit unions, this is a time of unprecedented opportunity for the Federation and the CDCU movement. We believe that our search will attract a wide and varied range of highly talented, committed professionals, excited about the opportunity to build on the foundation we have built together at the federation” she added.
