Clearview Federal Credit Union, Moon Township, Pa., announced that Mary Czemerda is the winner of its fourth annual Joseph C. Cirelli Community Service Award. The award is named in honor of the former president/CEO of Clearview. This award commemorates the efforts of a worthy volunteer with a $2,500 donation to the charity of choice. Czemerda was chosen for her volunteer efforts at Lower Burrell Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing meals for the elderly citizens in the Lower Burrell area each year. Czemerda supervises 102 volunteers, as well as solicits surrounding businesses for donations since approximately 33% of their meals are provided free of charge. Mary is responsible for all the paperwork involved with payment of meals as well as accounting. She is also credited for taking this charity from a church-based program to a not-for-profit organization by applying for their own 501 (c) (3) designation. In addition to honoring Czemerda for her commitment to community service, Clearview has made a $2,500 donation to the Lower Burrell Meals on Wheels program. This donation will be used to help feed five people for an entire year.
Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., was selected as the business of the year by the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce for its dedication to community outreach programs and successful business practices. Genisys has more than $1.3 billion in assets and is focused on providing its 125,000 members with service through 25 branches and thousands of surcharge-free ATMs. So far this year, Genisys has paid out more than $239 million in consumer loans and increased vehicle loans by 37.5%. Based on opinion polls, Genisys has a 96.8% member satisfaction rate and a 96% employee satisfaction rating. Genisys is also known as a strong community supporter; in 2010, it sponsored over 325 events and volunteered more than 4,000 hours of time in the community. Part of the organization's community outreach includes financial literacy training, both in the classroom and to the over 15,000 members in its three youth clubs. They are focused on teaching financial responsibility at a young age in hopes of giving the youth a $mart $tart and guiding them on the path to financial success.
MSU Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., was recognized by the Michigan Credit Union League for its youth education programs and achievement in the areas of philosophy in action and social responsibility. MSUFCU received first place honors for the Desjardins Financial Education Award, Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award, and Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award.
NuMark Credit Union, Joliet, Ill., received the Latino Business Association's community advocate award. Maria Alcantar, active association member and board volunteer, accepted the award. Created in 1995 as a sub-group of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Latino Business Association is an advocate for the Hispanic business community. Their goal is to unite local Hispanic business owners, professionals and future entrepreneurs. They host seminars, provide business consultations and offer networking opportunities. NuMark CU also received a second award naming them Outstanding New Chamber Business by the Tinley Park Chamber.
Partner Colorado Credit Union, Arvada, Colo., ranked sixth as Denver's best places to work in the medium-size company category by The Denver Business Journal. PCCU was recognized for its commitment to employee satisfaction, which the credit union believes drives outstanding service to its members. This is the seventh year in a row that PCCU has been named in the top ten of the award. The survey, which guarantees anonymity, is conducted by Quantum Workplace to measure 40 attributes determined to drive engagement. Questions were broken down into 10 categories: team effectiveness, retention risk, alignment with goals, trust with co-workers, individual contribution, manager effectiveness, trust in senior leaders, feeling valued, work engagement and people practices.
People's Federal Credit Union, Nitro, W. Va., had Becky McAllister awarded with its select award. The award is given for most loans originated in the small credit union category. McAllister has been the mortgage loan officer at PFCU for six years. This is the second consecutive year she was awarded the honor.
Redwood Credit Union, San Rafael, Calif., joined the roster of sponsors for the 19th annual Heart of Marin Awards. The awards, produced by the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership, have provided funding and recognition to hundreds of nonprofit organizations, schools and youth volunteers since 1992. RCU sponsored one of two awards for Achievement in Non-Profit Excellence, and RCU President/CEO Brett Martinez attended the event to present the award to the Point Reyes National Seashore Association.
South Jersey Federal Credit Union, Deptford, N.J., had its President/CEO Benjamin T. Griffith honored as Distinguished Citizen of the Year for Gloucester County by the Southern New Jersey Council, Boy Scouts of America. The presentation of the award, for Griffith's service to local communities, was made at a gala reception at Auletto's Caterers in Almonesson. Les Vail, president/CEO of the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce, served as master of ceremonies. Introducing Griffith and presenting him with the award was Eileen Cardile, president/CEO of Underwood Memorial Hospital and the 2007 recipient of the same award. Participating in the evening's opening ceremony, and the awarding of the Ideal Boy Scout statue award and Griffith's ceremonial Boy Scout hat and kerchief, were scouts of Boy Scout Troop 62 of the Almonesson United Methodist Church. This was the 36th annual Gloucester County Distinguished Citizen Award presented.
UT Federal Credit Union, Knoxville, Tenn., recently teamed up with the University of Tennessee Knoxville's Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the College of Business Administration to offer students, faculty and the community a chance to learn what it takes to start a business. Vol Court is a series of one-hour seminars presented weekly over the course of a semester to provide insight on how to start a new business.
