Mountain America Credit Union was honored recently with two awards from the U.S. Small Business Administration's Utah District–the 2011 Lender of the Year and the 2011 Blaine Andrus Memorial Award.
The first award, SBA Lender of the Year Award (large lender category), recognizes larger financial institutions for their business lending performance.
"It's truly an honor to have the SBA recognize the credit union's efforts," said David Doria, Mountain America's vice president of small business lending. "Mountain America always strives to give our business members the best service and loan products so they can focus on building their businesses."
The second award, which is named for Utah native Blaine Andrus, who helped lead the Utah SBA office until his death in December 2008, recognizes the credit union's community efforts and the diversity of its small business lending programs.
"Mountain America's dedication to small business lending goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to providing financial solutions to our members. We believe that offering a wide range of SBA programs is essential because no two businesses are alike. We want to match up business owners with the financing that fits them best," said Mike Turner, Mountain America's senior vice president of lending.
Mountain America Credit Union has a strong history of SBA lending and dedication to small business owners, the credit union said. For the last eight consecutive years, Mountain America has been the nation's number one SBA lender (by volume) among credit unions, according to Callahan and Associates, a national credit union research firm.
Mountain America Credit Union has more than 65 branches in five states. It serves more than 360,000 members and has $2.9 billion in assets.
