The $5.9 billion American Airlines Federal Credit Union has signed a long-term contract with Symitar to use the Episys core processing system, the company and credit union said Friday.

Symitar is a San Diego-based division of Jack Henry & Associates Inc. of Monett, Mo., and said it now provides core processing and related services to more than 700 credit unions.

The Fort Worth, Texas, credit union cited functionality, customization capabilities to faster deliver product enhancements and the ability to tailor products and services in its decision.

The conversion will take place in about 18 months, said Brad Aspgren, senior vice president of technology and innovation at 232,000-member AACU.

“The conversion will take significant coordination with Symitar and our other credit union partners, but will be transparent and seamless to our members,” Aspgren said.

AACU currently is a Fiserv Spectrum customer, according to the Technology Survey at Callahan & Associates.
