Celebrity financial adviser Suze Orman has removed a link from her website to a site that helps consumers find credit union-issued credit cards and replaced it with a link to the NCUA's credit union locator site.

The new NCUA link still appears under a headline "Good Credit Union Credit Cards."

Orman had encouraged the launch of the site, CreditCardConnection.org, in 2010 and promoted it and credit union credit cards generally as a good consumer alternative to cards issued by major banks.

Roughly 1,040 credit unions have card programs listed on the site, which also ranks them on their fees and practices for consumer friendliness.

Ondine Irving, founder of Card Analysis Solution, a credit card consultancy that works exclusively with credit unions developed Credit Card Connection and said in a blog about the move that she didn't know why Orman had pulled the link.

But she speculated the move might have had something to do with Orman offering a decoupled debit card, called the Approved Card, that  competes with some CU products.

Orman has not yet commented on the move.

"Is this the end of the site?" Irving wrote in the blog. "Not at all. Is it the end of Suze Orman's involvement with the site? Clearly it is. Although she had not publicly promoted nearly as much as she did in 2010… it remained a mainstay at her website under 'resources' for two years. I share this with you as many of the 1,034 credit unions have referred to Suze Orman's support of this site on their own website, and it may require updating."
