Card Services for Credit Unions is sponsoring the founder of Bank Transfer Day as a guest speaker at two major industry conferences this spring.

Kristen Christian, the Los Angeles art dealer whose Facebook posting sparked a national movement, will speak at the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference on March 18-22 in Washington, D.C., and at the CSCU Annual Conference in St. Petersburg, Fla., on April 25-29, CSCU said.

"CSCU is proud to bring in Kristen to speak at GAC and our annual conference.  Her story is truly inspiring and demonstrates exceptional leadership and motivation on how credit unions can grow their membership," said Robert Hackney, president of CSCU, the 3,000-member association of credit unions using FIS for their card processing.

"With a perspective based in activism, she was raised with an understanding that cooperation and respect are crucial for communities to thrive. From serving their members to serving the communities they are a part of, credit unions follow a similar path," CSCU said in its announcement.

Hundreds of thousands of people joined credit unions in the run up to and on Bank Transfer Day, sparked by a planned and later rescinded Bank of America monthly debit fee. Christian picked Nov. 5 for the date to coincide with Guy Fawkes Day in England.
