There's a new leader at Commonwealth Credit Union.

Karen Harbin, former executive vice president, has been tapped as the Frankfort, Ky.-based credit union's president/CEO. Harbin succeeds CEO Gary Wallace, who retired Dec. 31 after 35 years of service.

With nearly 30 years of financial experience, Harbin has also served as vice president of finance and chief accountant at the $909 million credit union. Her responsibilities have ranged from oversight of the credit union's financial performance, portfolio and investment strategies, to information technology, security and disaster recovery, strategic planning and forecasting, and human resources.

As Wallace was her personal mentor, Harbin said she considers it an honor and a privilege to follow in the longtime president's footsteps.
