There were 35 college football bowl games this season but only one sponsored by a credit union – the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

SDCCU has sponsored the game since its 2005 debut. The SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl also is the first to establish a charity beneficiary, with $1 of every ticket going to the San Diego Chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

That totaled $25,000 this year, and since the effort began, more than 44 wishes have been granted to local children with dangerous illnesses.

Gathered for the check presentation are, from left, Chris Sichel, executive director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation in San Diego, Make-A-Wish kids Aidan, Tyler, Emma and Christian, and SDCCU President/CEO Teresa Halleck.
