The 190 or so credit unions running on the CU*BASE core processing system from CU*Answers are now being offered mobile text banking, the Grand Rapids, Mich., CUSO said.
The new offering joins the existing mobile Web banking solution, a free automatic redirect to the CUSO's It's Me 24/7 online banking system.
Functionality includes alerts and the ability to text requests for balances, the CUSO said. The service will be free until March 1 and then 3.25 cents for each outgoing message, with incoming requests remaining free, CU*Answers said.
"Although CU*Answers is not the first to release text banking, we elected to take the programming initiative for developing much of this product internally, versus purchasing through a third party provider," said Scott Page, executive vice president.
"Our history has proven this approach to be a far better strategy as it allows the CUSO to completely manage its ongoing development path and CU*BASE integration processes. Perhaps as important, it provides the added benefit of offering tools such as this at a small fraction of the price we often see from others—including no upfront client investment," Page said.
