A credit union mobile app for the new Kindle Fire electronic tablet will be released soon by CU Mobile Apps, a startup provider of mobile apps for Android and iPhone devices.
Amazon released the $199 tablet last month and said it expects to sell more than 5 million of them this year alone, presenting an opportunity for credit unions to serve consumer anxious to do their banking on the Android-powered devices, said Tom Gray, a partner in CU Mobile Apps' parent firm, Member Service Solutions LLC of Franklin, Tenn.
The Kindle Fire-supporting application is a first in the industry, Gray said, and was produced by Crash Bang Studios LLC of Tampa, Fla., which also engineered the Tennessee company's apps launched this past summer.

"The Kindle Fire is certainly one of the best implementations of Android on a tablet that we have seen to date, and as a mobile application development company, we have seen a great many different mobile devices," Crash Bang Studios said in a statement.
Gray said 10 credit unions have begun offering its members the original applications from CU Mobile Apps. Crash Bang Studios said the Kindle Fire application will be available by the end of March.
